Internship Development

Toon currently already integrates with various 3rd party IoT/Smart Home products like Philips HUE and Fibaro Smoke detectors. As the IoT market is growing we see the need to be able to integrate with more and more products. To make it easier for us to integrate with these products we are investigating various frameworks and OCF seems to be one of the more promising possibilities. For this reason we are looking for a graduate student who will do research and help us with this.

Your Challenge

Quby recently became a member of the Open Connectivity Foundation (OCF):

What is OCF?
The Open Connectivity Foundation is dedicated to ensuring secure interoperability for consumers, businesses and industries by delivering a standard communications platform, a bridging specification, an open source implementation and a certification program allowing devices to communicate regardless of form factor, operating system, service provider, transport technology or ecosystem.

The industry leading companies involved in OCF believe that secure and reliable device discovery and connectivity is a foundational component to enable IoT. The good news is that it is underway.

The subject of this internship will be to investigate what the OCF has the offer and how Quby could benefit from adopting this standard within the Toon and the peripherals we also create. This also includes an investigation into the open source implementations IoTivity and AllJoyn to see if that can be a replacement for parts of our internal software. As part of the internship a ‘Proof of Concept’ implementation must be delivered that can at least be used to determine the impact to our Software if we would strive for full certification.
